2019 saw the culmination of a year-long research project, ‘BELONGING’, a partnership between Open Eye Gallery, Whitby High School and research collaborators, Curious Minds and Liverpool Hope University.

Developed around a shared ambition to raise the aspirations and ambitions of young people through participation in cultural activity, BELONGING applied research approaches that put students at the heart of the process and culminated in an exhibition of their work at Open Eye in April 2019.

A CERI report highlights the extent to which the aims and objectives of the project were met, the tensions of partnership working between gallery and school settings, and how collaborative approaches supported and restricted the overall delivery of the project. It also provides a useful summary of what can be learnt and adapted from this experience for future projects of this nature. The report was Co-authored by Christine Robson, Liz Wewiora and Andy Yates.
