New Writing North provides skills development for writers and young people in the shape of student placements, internships with universities, conferences and writing development programmes.

With the HE sector, New Writing North works with Northumbria University contributing to the MA module Creative writing and enterprise; this includes working as a writer, project management, portfolio working, CV building and job applications.

The organisation also works on the Durham Book Festival, and has links with LJMU, UCLAN and Manchester University.

There is a programme to fast track BAME writers, and another for disabled people is soon to be launched. All other courses are accessible, free or reasonably prized. Artist feedback is gathered, and each programme is benchmarked.

Long-term relationships are established with writers.
