DARE Prize 2017 is open for applications.

The Prize, awarded by the DARE partnership between the University of Leeds and Opera North, challenges artists and scientists to think differently about the creative process – to see what happens when artistic vision collides with world-leading scientific research; the dynamic of an artist and an academic working together to initiate new invention.

The £15,000 Prize will be awarded to an ambitious early-career artist, with proven experience of risk-thinking and risk-taking, who is motivated by the opportunity to work in partnership with leading scientific researchers at the University of Leeds. Other artistic resources including studio space and musicians from Opera North may also be available to the artist.

The successful recipient will be matched with a researcher who shares their vision and brings the knowledge, expertise and networks to support the creation of something new.

Working together over a year from spring 2017, the fruits of the partnership will be revealed in March 2018.  The result of the collaboration is your  call – it could be a dance performance or a poem, an interactive website or a cycle of new songs.

Please note that the judges do not expect this to be a full time commitment, but the project must be achievable within twelve months.

Applications are welcomed from individual, independent artists from across the artistic spectrum.

Arts organisations are not eligible to apply.
