Libidinal Circuits Collaborative Conference with University of Liverpool School of the Arts (SOTA).
Libidinal Circuits (LC) was the 3rd annual conference of the International Association for the Study of the Culture of Cities. Jointly hosted by the School of the Arts (SOTA) and FACT from 8-10 July, LC was pitched as a conversation between academics and artists on what motivates our journeys and stories within the city.
FACTLab hosted both the launch of the conference and developed, through an open call distributed internationally to its artist community, 4 new artworks that were commissioned as part of the conference and installed and promoted throughout the build up and during the conference in the FACTLab in Gallery 2 alongside and 2 existing artworks that were restaged.
The conference attracted a total of 40 academics and 6 artists to take part in Libidinal Circuits, with just under two-thirds (27) of participants joining the conversation from UK based Universities. There was fairly strong representation from Australia (6) and Canada (6), Academics came from the USA (2); with Ireland, Honk Kong and Spain (1) also represented.
The event received overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants, delegates and artists alike and will be followed up by a print publication that be published by the University of Liverpool Press (Spring 2017). We are building upon this as a solid foundation for future events between FACT and SOTA.
